Background and Forward Looking Vision

OFS Portal originated in 2000 in response to oil companies’ desire for electronic catalogs of oilfield supplier products and services and wishes to exchange transactional documents.  Oilfield services companies responded to this opportunity to assist customers by creating OFS Portal to ensure a cost-efficient, secure and standardized approach for this emerging technology within the industry.  Through OFS Portal, service companies who are Members can elect to provide catalog and transactional content to all oil companies through a common platform with consistent standards.  Moreover, they can address concerns about controlling costs by using industry standards and are able to maintain data confidentiality.  Members share risks to minimize costs and avoid costly mistakes. 

Members and their designated Trading Partners can participate in the development of industry standards and business processes.  OFS Portal has been the leader in developing standards in conjunction with API’s Petroleum Industry Data Exchange (API/PIDX) and continues to focus on relationship-building between oilfield service companies and oil companies.  OFS Portal focuses on preservation of data ownership, security, confidentiality, reliability and maintaining ease of use as part of an overarching effort to create a trust-worthy environment for business transactions between Members and oil companies in the community.
