HOUSTON (Sept 30, 2011)
For more than 6 years OFS Portal has been associated with one of the premier industry event organizers internationally, Global Pacific & Partners. On September 28-30, 2011 Global Pacific & Partners held their 16th Upstream Asia event in Singapore. OFS Portal was represented there by Dave Wallis, our Europe-Africa Middle and Far East Representative, where he was able to spend time with many of the senior executives present and introduce eBusiness concepts to a wide audience.
The conference brought together senior E&P executives from across the region, from Pakistan in the West to New Zealand in the East. The major part of the conference was a series of presentations around the strategies of the Operators in the region and how they adapt to the special needs and pressures in this part of the world. Companies ranged from the Majors such as Chevron through very small independents and start-ups such as PEL, Horizon Energy and KrisEnergy. Other segments covered a small selection of governmental ministries using this conference to explain the changing terms for future licensing rounds, from countries such as Timor Este and New Zealand. Deloitte gave a very detailed review of the rig market and farm-in activities, plus a summary of the many discoveries made over the last 12 months.
Global Pacific and Partners CEO, Duncan Clarke gave a very thought provoking speech on how he views the need for a change in how developing nations should approach maximizing the country's value from E&P activity. This would require a very different approach to the initial license bid terms.
Overall, Dave Wallis stated that he felt that this event brings together senior executives from the E&P sphere in a cordial atmosphere where discussions regarding company plans were openly reviewed and compared. Dave said that each year the attendance at this Upstream Asia has grown as more and more of the smaller independents see value at the event.
